‟Building strong relationships both with clients and within organisations is paramount for effecting transformative change and working through complex business decisions, particularly if they carry significant commercial, operational and strategic risk. These relationships create a trusting space for innovative thinking, energy and creativity in problem solving and deal-making.”
As a Director in our MENA office, Gerhard brings 30 years’ experience in consulting, executive and director‑level roles in natural resource extraction industries, supporting clients within Mining, Metals and Oil and Gas to gain lasting competitive advantage through innovative strategies and solutions underpinned by execution excellence.
Gerhard’s entrepreneurial perspective, combined with a reputation for strong shareholder relationship management, risk evaluation and change management skills has seen him work with the highest levels of leadership in CEO and director‑level roles on strategy development, complex mergers and acquisitions, post‑merger integration, business transformation and unusually complex business situations.
As someone who thrives on helping leaders through complex decisions, Gerhard is adept at guiding companies in emerging markets through compliance with international business and corporate governance standards. He has a passion for bringing leading‑edge innovations to clients such as using customised competitor simulations or 'war games' that allows companies to test competitor reactions to potential transactions in industries where there is a high risk of adverse market impacts, adding another level of due diligence to major strategic decisions. Similarly he has assisted public clients to use advanced choice experiments to test public policy options.
Gerhard comes to Partners in Performance after serving as a Senior Partner at Deloitte Management Services in Canada consulting to mining, oil and gas and petrochemicals clients on billion‑dollar strategy and digital transformation projects. Prior to this, his role as an Independent Non‑Executive Director, board and committee member at Nornickel saw him nominated as a candidate for Best Independent Director and Best Audit Committee Chair in Russia in 2018. He has also held senior roles with Bain and Company and the Monitor Group (now MonitorDeloitte).
Between 2006 and 2009, he acted Pro Bono as the Director of International Relationships for the International Congress of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, whose purpose is to coordinate economic relations between companies and the states of the Former Soviet Union and connecting them with western investment capital. He also served on the Advisory Board of a major pipeline maintenance and construction company.
Raised and educated in South Africa, Gerhard has lived on three continents and worked in diverse cultural and business environments from North America and Europe to Asia and Africa. Combined with fluency in English, German and Afrikaans, and elementary‑level Russian and Dutch, Gerhard is well‑placed to build networks across the globe.
Gerhard’s commitment to integrity, corporate governance and risk management, combined with an eye for commercial opportunities allows him to contribute to strategic and organisational transformations that deliver significant value to shareholders and leadership teams alike.
